Integrity Commission Statement on the Passing of Former Chairman Gordon Dean
The Integrity Commission of Trinidad and Tobago mourns the passing of former Chairman, Mr. Gordon Deane.
Mr. Deane was appointed Chairman of the Commission on August 13th, 2003 and had previously served as a Member with effect from July 20th, 2000.
Under the Integrity in Public Life Act, 2000; the Commission had received an expanded mandate, the categories of persons required to file had increased; and the Commission had mounted an aggressive public education program to inform persons in public life of their rights and responsibilities, under the Act.
In 2004, under Mr. Deane’s chairmanship, the Integrity Commission received, for the first time ever, the largest number of declarations of income, assets and liabilities in its 18-year history.
Chairman Deane will be remembered for his mantra that “The tone starts at the top” and for his commitment to improving working conditions for staff.
The Integrity Commission extends deepest condolences to the Deane family on the former Chairman’s death.
