The Integrity Commission wishes everyone a Happy Labour Day! Today, we celebrate the people who fought and continue to fight for the lives of workers. We must also remember that the selfless, courageous acts of those who fought for workers’ rights in the 20th century paved the way for universal adult franchise, nationalism and independence. Their advocacy proved that the sustainability of democracy requires the championing of equality and reverence for the rights of workers. To honour their legacy, we must continue to advocate for the rights of workers, and encourage the fortitude and strength of character and community that pushed for monumental reforms.
