The Legal Department provides legal assistance to the Commission in the execution of its functions.
Our legal officers furnish legal advice and legal opinions to the Commission in respect of persons defined under the Act as “persons in public life” and “persons exercising public functions.” Our legal team:
- assists the Commission in the preparation of contracts;
- represents the Commission in court matters to which the Commission is a party; and
- is also responsible for filing ex parte applications in the High Court for orders against delinquent persons in public life, directing them to file their declarations of income, assets and liabilities and statements of registrable interests under pain of criminal prosecution.
